Verify with VDV II for improved troubleshooting and productivity

The VDV II cable verifier series from IDEAL Networks is helping network installers to keep productivity high and operational costs low when it comes to troubleshooting in voice, data and video cable installation.  As well as delivering far more than just wiremap test results, VDV II can boost productivity by supporting up to 24 remotes.

“Installers have been using LED cable verifiers or ‘blink boxes’ to conduct wiremap tests for years as they are easy to use and suitable for identifying common faults,” explains Tim Widdershoven, Global Marketing Manager at IDEAL Networks. “However, with today’s more complex cable infrastructures, LCD verifiers are the best choice for the majority of installers and can help to improve efficiency.”

Unlike LED verifiers where the user must decode a sequence of blinking lights to identify the cabling fault, the display panel on an LCD verifier has intuitive graphics to provide far more comprehensive details on cabling faults, allowing for faster repair. LCD verifiers can display information such as cable length, distance to opens or shorts, crossovers, split pairs, connection speed on live networks, analog vs. digital phone service and PoE (Power over Ethernet) status.

To improve productivity, LCD verifiers can also offer support for multiple remotes. Using several inexpensive, numbered remotes, a single installer can connect to numerous cables at once and test each one from the patch panel in seconds. The LCD verifier then displays the test result along with the ID number of the remote, ensuring that single-person testing of a jobsite can be completed more efficiently, saving installers both time and money.

Developed using customer research and innovative technology, the VDV II LCD verifier series from IDEAL Networks offers functionality not previously available in a wiremapper or LED verifier.  With integrated RJ-11/RJ-12 (voice), RJ-45 (data) and coax F-Type (video) connectors, installers and maintenance technicians only need one piece of equipment to quickly check the integrity of virtually any copper data cable found in a domestic or commercial voice, data or video installation, including telephone wiring, LAN data network cabling (Cat 5/5e/6/6a/7) and video/security alarm wiring.

To ensure that installers and technicians can select the cable verifier which best suits their copper cable testing needs, the series includes a choice of three models, VDV II, VDV II Plus and VDV II Pro. Intelligently designed and affordably priced, all VDV II cable testers can detect when they are plugged into an outlet where voltage is present, offering protection against potential damage to the tester to help keep costs down.

For fast, effective troubleshooting, improved on-site productivity and less disruption for customers, VDV II Pro uses TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) to obtain more accurate measurements more quickly. It also offers in-built network detection to help identify connection issues that are caused by a media service (such as ISDN, PBX or PoE), rather than a cable fault.
